Privacy Policy

1. Summary
ATLAS displays information about researchers compiled from public scholarly sources. It does not require an account, does not set tracking cookies, and runs no analytics scripts. The only personal data involved are (a) the public researcher records we display, and (b) minimal technical data inherent to serving a website.
2. Researcher data we display
For each researcher the service may show: name, last known institutional affiliation, publication titles/years, citation counts, co-authorship links, and conference participation derived from public program listings. Sources: OpenAlex (CC0 public-domain bibliographic data) and publicly announced conference programs (ICML, ICLR, NeurIPS).
Legal basis (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f); Korean PIPA Art. 15(1)6): our legitimate interest — and the public's — in visualizing openly published scholarly records, which the researchers themselves made public by publishing. We display no private contact details, no home addresses, and no sensitive categories of data.
3. Your rights (researchers appearing in ATLAS)
- Correction — if your record is wrong (mis-attributed papers, wrong affiliation, inflated/split citation counts), email us and we will fix it.
- Removal — you may request removal of your node from the visualization; we will comply within 14 days unless the record is required to preserve the integrity of others' co-authorship data, in which case we will minimize it (e.g., de-identify).
- Access / objection — you may ask what we hold about you or object to processing at the same address.
Requests: ai.team@newmes.io. EU/EEA and UK residents may also lodge a complaint with their supervisory authority; Korean residents may contact PIPC (privacy.go.kr).
4. Visitor data
- No accounts, no tracking cookies, no advertising or analytics scripts.
- localStorage — your "me" selection and view preferences are stored only in your browser and never transmitted to us.
- Hosting logs — the site is served by Cloudflare Pages (CDN). Cloudflare processes standard access data (IP address, request metadata) to deliver and secure the service, per the Cloudflare Privacy Policy. We do not receive or store these logs.
- Third-party API — when you open a researcher profile, your
browser may query
api.openalex.orgdirectly for live citation data; OpenAlex then sees your IP address, per the OpenAlex privacy policy. - Service worker cache — for offline/PWA use, app files are cached on your device; you can clear them by uninstalling the app or clearing site data.
5. Retention
Researcher records are retained while they remain in the public source data or until a removal request is honored. We keep no visitor-level data to retain.
6. Children
The service displays professional scholarly records and is not directed at children.
7. International transfers
Content is delivered from Cloudflare's global edge network; the underlying dataset is prepared in the Republic of Korea from public sources.
8. Changes
We will post any changes to this page with a new effective date. Material changes to how researcher data is processed will be noted prominently.
